PROPULSION

The Propulsion Department is responsible for developing the rocket’s propulsion system, with a particular focus on hybrid engines. The department is currently working on completing PHYRE, the paraffin and nitrous oxide hybrid engine that will be integrated into the new Pegasus rocket, delivering thrust on the order of 2 kN with a burn time of approximately 5 s.
Activities include sizing the combustion chamber, feed system, injector, and nozzle, developing internal ballistics models, and using tools such as NASA CEA and CFD software. The department also develops SRAD components, including tanks, valves, and flow measurement systems.
